Rare ‘H’ Baby Names in 2016

Screen Shot 2018-02-02 at 6.52.04 PM

Some of my all-time favorite names start with the letter ‘H!’ I even love modern ‘H’ names, and my name preferences are usually very ancient or traditional. To be fair, Hadley and Harper do have literary precedents…

The names below are rare ‘H’ names that were used in the U.S. in 2016, the latest year for which national baby name data has been released. They are sorted by popularity – the most common names will appear first, and the least common will be at the bottom of the list. They’re also color-coded; dark pink indicates that the name was mostly (≥90%) given to girls, blue to (≥90%) boys, and purple to both (>10% and <90% boys and girls).

  1. I always liked the name Harvey bc it is my brother’s name. And I love the name Hester too – the name char. from the book The Scarlet Letter! And Hunter has been an all-time boy name favorite of mine. Beyond that, not too much of an ‘H’ name person unfort.

  2. Ooh, I love H names too! Hermione, Honor and Hephzibah (little Hephzi — how sweet!) are my favourite girls’ names listed, but I absolutely adore Hero, Hester and Hesper as well.

I’m not as keen on H boys’ names… I like Henry and Hiro, and I love Hal, but that’s about it.

Hmm… I’m not 100% clear on your style yet, but if you like Hephzibah then I’ll guess that these three are your favourites: Hermione, Henrietta, Horatio… Am I close?
